Mark T. Kobata
Mark T. Kobata is a partner in the law firm of Barlow, Kobata & Denis LLP located in Los Angeles, California. Mr. Kobata graduated from UCLA in 1972 and received his law degree from Southwestern University School of Law. He was admitted to the California Bar in 1977 and is admitted to practice before the U.S. Supreme Court and in various federal District Courts and Courts of Appeals. He is also admitted to practice in the U.S. Claims Court.
Mr. Kobata focuses on representing employers and management in all aspects of employment and labor law, with an emphasis on business planning, litigation avoidance, and defending employers in civil litigation and before state and federal administrative agencies.
Mr. Kobata is a member of the American Bar Association, Labor and Employment Law Section, and the Los Angeles County Bar Association, Labor and Employment Law Section. He is a frequent lecturer at seminars and in house training programs on subjects including employment discrimination and harassment, corporate restructuring, affirmative action, personnel policies and procedures, and litigation avoidance. Mr. Kobata has been a contributor to the monthly human resources magazine, Workforce, and to recent supplements to the CEB (Continuing Education of the Bar) Book entitled, Advising California Employers.
Dennis C. DePalma
Dennis C. DePalma joined Barlow, Kobata & Denis in March 2015. Mr. DePalma brings with him more than fourteen years of experience in litigating labor and employment matters ranging from single-plaintiff cases involving small employers to class action litigation involving Fortune 500 companies. Mr. DePalma also has appellate experience, having argued before the California Court of Appeal on multiple occasions.
Mr. DePalma’s practice has also included providing advice and counseling to employers on a variety of employment law issues, including workplace accommodations, corporate downsizing, internal investigations, and related matters. Mr. DePalma has overseen investigations of complaints of harassment, discrimination, and retaliation, and represented employers before the Department of Fair Employment and Housing, the California Labor Commissioner, and OSHA.
Mr. DePalma is also a trained and experienced mediator, having conducted mediations both within and without the field of employment law.
